My Thoughts:(4 stars)

I told myself, when actor Jang Hyuk comes back from his army service, I will surely watch his next drama. Behold, he is doing a drama alright! But a genre or theme that I have avoided to watch so far. Yes, its one of those dramas with incurable diseases and the main characters dies in the end, or so I thought. I contemplated for a while, “should I watch or not to watch?”

Characters:
I gave in, and watched it, man was I ever wrong on my pre-assumed cliched drama thought. I loved how the story is not rushed and takes its time to reveal the intertwined strings that connect the characters. The actress Gong Hyo Jin as I have also seen her in other dramas such as “Let’s go to school Sang-doo and my favorite, “Hello Teacher Biscuit”, did a wonderful portrayal of Young shin, an unwed mother who is struggling to make ends meet and to take care of a father that has dementia and a daughter who is infected of the HIV virus. She is strong, holding the family together, working odd jobs and it really touched my heart that she’s not the type of girl who comes after the guy to take the responsibility for her because of their child, and instead tries to stand firm and raised their child all by herself. My only complaint is that, whenever Choi Suk Hyun’s mother comes after her and say hurtful things to her, she just stands there and quietly takes it all in. That might be her nature, but as human beings there are times that your bucket of patience could overflow and you just had to fight back! I was mad at that! grrrrr. Jang Hyuk as always is superb in playing as a jerk, arrogant doctor who can’t come to terms with his girlfriend’s death and mistake. Shin Sung Rok, this is my first time seeing him acting, and I am impressed, specially on times, that he longs to be a Dad to Lee Bom. All the characters are sooo lovable that it pains you when they have misconception of each other.

Story:

Each and every episode left me breathless and full of tears. I have shed tears not because of pity for Young shin’s family’s painful human strife but for the courage, love and strong bonds that keep them together. This series did not give emphasis on Lee Bom’s struggles with the pains of the disease but showed gracefully the human change, brought upon the understanding of the disease. I admire Young Shin’s courage in dealing with her daughter and her illness. Living each day, trying to be strong, putting up a fake smile just for her daughter’s sake. The agony of trying to pass on each day as if its just normal, but deep within there’s a dread that one day they might get shunned, if Lee Bom’s illness be revealed. The sentence that struck me most is:

If I have become your miracle, then its
because you first awakened my life’s miracles.
To you, I say…
THANK YOU

This drama, gave a whole lot of meaning to the word thank you, for this word implies the life changing appreciation in life and people.
